When I was a young boy
My mama said to me
There's only one girl in the world for you
And she probably lives in Tahiti
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
Just to find her
Or maybe she's in the Bahamas
Where the Carribean sea is blue
Weeping in a tropical moonlit night
Because nobody's told her 'bout you
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
Just to find her
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
Find out where they hide her
Why am I hanging around in the rain out here
Trying to pick up a girl
Why are my eyes filling up with these lonely tears
When there are girls all over the world
Is she lying on a tropical beach somewhere
Underneath the tropical sun
Pining away in a heatwave there
Hoping that I won't be long
I should be lying on that sun-soaked beach with her
Caressing her warm brown skin
And then in a year or maybe not quite
We'll be sharing the same next of kin
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
Just to find her
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
Find out where they hide her
Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric
Admittedly, 'Stranger Than Fiction' was a good movie. I wish I had been on a date.

Why bailouts for corporations?
It dawned on me this morning that any federal money to be used to bail out corporations most likely won't help the U.S. economy because it sort of rewards, or saves the asses, of companies gone bad. Federal money, which is really the taxpayers' money and, to a large degree, borrowed dollars from foreign entities, should be used to bail out or help our citizens.
Mr. President-elect Obama, I hope your advisors find this post and bring it to your attention. I'm not the greatest nor brightest of minds nor am I an iota as smart as you or any of your advisors. However, it occurred to me while reading the Wall Street Journal this morning that federal money can be better spent by returning it to the taxpayers. Why?
Because:
-Taxpayers can ease their burdens (bills, credit card debt and mortgage) if we receive tax relief
-With burdens eased, alleviated, mitigated or brought to very manageable levels, taxpayers would likely start spending again (to stimulate the economy) or put money away should a depression set in over the near term (to increase the overall savings)
-Companies/corporations, upon realizing that they're not going to get help, will be forced to restructure or reorganize to improve its operations and introduce better products
-As taxpayers (a.k.a. consumers) will have liquidity, they'll choose higher quality and/or valued products; thus, forcing businesses to innovate and to cut costs (consider how long U.S. carmakers have been making so-so cars; this certainly would push them off their lazy asses to offer more fuel efficient products)
-Instead of banks getting capital injections from the Fed to promote lending, give taxpayers/potential borrowers the liquidity so that lenders will fight to provide loans (because potential borrowers have been credit-enhanced) but under prudent lending standards, which should be reviewed and monitored so that we don't have another credit meltdown or loan fiasco
Politically,
-You will own up to your words of providing tax relief to the middle and lower class who make up the engine of this great nation
-You were elected by us under the message of "Change" and "Hope"; the aforementioned tax refund to citizenry will be a major CHANGE from the historical lobbying that has pulled money away from the people and, once the people has received their refundss, we will have the eased HOPE of a brighter future
-We, the People, would rather have federal money sent our way instead of propping up mismanaged companies because we cringe at our situations not changing as billions, possibly trillions, of dollars are spent to which we have to ultimately pay for it
-We, Main Streeters, need the money to put food on our tables, pay for the roofs over our heads, dress our children and maintain health insurance for our families
-America needs you to reinvest, reinvigorate and renovate our country and this tax repayment to the citizenry is perhaps the best alternate out there: spend the money on us!
How?
A potentially fair way to refund money to the citizenry is based on the last three years' of tax filing. All taxpayers will receive money, including the affluent. Consider the following distribution:
Average of 3 years' filing (Adjusted Taxable Income or ATI):

The above income ranges and households are based on the 2006 U.S. Census Economic Survey. The maximum staggering cost is $1.553 trillion dollars. How much has the government set aside to help companies? $700 billion for TARP, $144 billion for CPFF and $135 billion for AIG, about $979 billion. Mr. President-elect Obama, the needs of the many many American FAR outweigh the needs of the few. It's embarrassing that AIG executives threw lavish parties and set aside $503 million for bonuses just as they got $85 billion in help. Fellow Americans had to fret about the next meal and how we're going to pay bills. It's wrong that carmakers flew private jets to beg for money. Bills are piling up and Americans getting more fearful. If we get the refunds, we will have the relief you promised. Otherwise, I worry that, given our native need to survive, crime may go up. Please soothe and ease our fears.
We do not need more FEAR as has been drilled into us during the last eight years. Give us the CHANGE so we can all HOPE again.

Blu-ray
Netflix isn't releasing new blu-ray movies fast enough that I picked Zombie Strippers with Jenna Jameson. Holy shit, it's the worst movie I've seen. Jenna still has a nice body, namely her butt and legs. I'm not impressed by her fake boobs or the excessive makeup. The guys who were selected to be in the movie probably had a great time, especially the one who got the private lap-dance...until Jenna's zombie character bite his dick off.
Up next in the queue are Starship Troopers 2 and 3, the straight to video movies of the commercial bomb.
But it's blu-ray...

Proud to be AMERICAN
President Obama better deliver on his promise because I gave him my vote.
The sniveling right-wing better want to work with him to restore America's image and prestige. They ought to look back to 1994 when they took over Congress and hassled Clinton. They were given the power to make change but they wrecked America, led by their head douchebag, W. The 2008 elections are proof that Americans are sick of the Republican bullshit.
Go Obama! Get your shit on!

Sad day...
For Tea Leoni, the goddess. Her husband of 10 years, David X-Files Fox Mulder Duchovny became David Douchebag Duchovny.
I don't understand nor condone cheating, especially with affairs of the heart. The guy had the hottest woman in the world (well, in my eyes) and did something stupid like sex addiction, probably involved some kind of affair. While there are other beautiful women in the world, how many could be so lucky to spend the honeymoon holed up in a really nice hotel room watching sports and, presumably, fucking like rabbits as if fucking were to become illegal.
Damn David, how could you fuck up so badly?!?!?!?!?!?
Tea, you're still the best, bar none.

Vice Presidential Debate Tonight
I hope all concerned Americans will watch tonight's VP debate. Why? Because there is the chance that McCain/Palin could win the White House and that would bring about a very scary 2009-2013 because of Palin.
Below is an excerpt from Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post written today:
For days now, television viewers have watched Sarah Palin unable to explain the significance of her home state's bordering Russia, unable to name a Supreme Court ruling she disagrees with, unable to name a single newspaper she reads.
Her halting, unfocused answers in a series of interviews with Katie Couric have left an unmistakable question hanging in the air before tonight's vice presidential debate: Is Palin going to fall on her face?
Even as some conservative commentators have panned her performances and fretted about how the Alaska governor will fare against Sen. Joe Biden, Palin has challenged the ethics of those interviewing her. Her running mate, John McCain, has complained about "gotcha journalism." And a top campaign official says female journalists are being especially mean to Palin.
Mean to Palin? What the fuck?!?!?!?
Sarah, you are running for the no. 2 position in the nation. You NEED to be vetted, examined, questioned and probed to see if you can handle the job as opposed to just saying that you can. Fuck, I like to think that I can too. The process involves questions requesting details and specifics as to how you might handle situations, issues or confrontations based on your experience and understanding of the dynamics involved. Saying that you won't 'blink' isn't strong nor convincing enough to manage the complexities of leadership.
When you cannot provide specifics to soft questions, what should intellectuals on both the left and right think? To say that being able to see Russia constitutes foreign policy experience is utter bullshit. Many folks in Buffalo or Detroit can see Canada just as many folks in Texas and New Mexico can see Mexico. Are you more versed in foreign policy than them? Certainly not. There are probably folks in those states who have traveled the world many more times than you and have gotten to understand the folks of where they've gone. Where have you been when you've only gotten your passport in the last 24 months that gives you the edge? How long were you there that you were able to absorb the local life? Are you ready? NYET!
Another perplexing scratch-the-head thing is your inability to bullshit about having read any media publications like, Time, Newsweek or the local newspaper. If you indeed did read 'all varieties of publications', why can't you name one? Or would doing so make you an intellectual; thus, an elitist which is a terrible thing. I saw your response to the Supreme Court question and it was clear that you were evading the question. Was Katie mean to you when she lofted that meatball question for you to smash? What was unethical about her questioning your understanding of Supreme Court decisions (often quite major and society-changing)? The executive branch has the privilege of selecting justices to the bench or did you not know that?
While I don't think you're dumb or stupid, you just haven't shown that you're ready for the job of Vice President. Having moxie and fortitude is good but that's not the foundation for a leader. Consider the younger Bush. He has moxie and fortitude like you and look how he fucked up this country. Invading Iraq on a gut feeling and belief that god told him so really did a number on our country and the world. He still tries not to blink but has been rapidly blinking in the last few months. By the way, Jon Stewart makes a solid point that blinking is necessary action, otherwise our eyes would dry out. So moxie/fortitude won't cut it as we all NEED to repair our country.
I hope you can quell the doubts from both the left and right tonight. Otherwise, you're toast and I recommend that you do not resign from your governorship.

Please vote on 4 November 2008
Hopefully not for McCain/Palin.
Here's an article to read as to why they should NOT be in the White House:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us/politics/14palin.html?hp=&adxnnl=1&pagewanted=all&adxnnlx=1221365201-+pfB0pYbRfvWjMxE9l/nhA
For any Republicans that come across this post, please take a moment to consider the state of our beloved country and then feel free to provide a well-thought-out thesis to vote for McCain/Palin. I really do want to know why I should cast my vote their way instead of for Obama/Biden. And NO, I'm not being sarcastic.
I voted for Bush, not the current idiot in the White House. Senior Bush knew what needed to be done to fix America after the massive deficits rang up by his predecessor. Also, his Democratic opponent, Dukakis, was dull and lame.
I'm interested in knowing what reforms Johnny and Sarah will bring to Washington. So far, their campaign has only slung mud at Obama/Biden whom have been presenting ideas on revitalizing America.
It's already blatantly obvious that Johnny sold his soul to the Satan. Could it be that that's what he meant when he mentioned "the gates of hell"? I thought he was a respectable option in 2000. Frankly, I lost respect for the guy when he couldn't answer a direct question for his position on women NOT receiving birth control benefits as opposed to that for Viagra. Fuck, women are an important half of America, even the curiously secretive and vindictive Palin. His stuttering response about needing to speak with his staff about his position is just pathetic.
So...can anyone change my mind?

Eight is enough...
Not because that's the Democrats' line for getting Obama elected so that the party controls both the White House and Congress. But because the U.S. is in desperate need of serious fact-based education. This writing springs from several days of reading and hearing constant Republican nonsense.
1. Conservatism: these right-wingers want to keep things the way they are because their following of dumb-asses, fueled by religious and nationalistic fervor, totally believe their bullshit of God and USA being united into a Christian Nation and will fight to keep things the way it is. Historians would confirm that Hitler ran his Third Reich in much the same way. I'm not saying Republicans are Nazis but the party certainly exhibits many of the traits of fascism: exclusion, hatred, fear-mongering, blaming others, encouraging individuals to give up rights for state security, among others, see below.
2. Anti-intellectualism: this particular one makes me laugh because the Republican must really think lowly of its followers. For all their bullshit about liberal elitism, the common Republican folks don't hear the smugness of their leaders talking down to them. Perhaps people just like being on the side of the accusers and it's so much easier to hate and ridicule than it is to overcome fear and to learn. VP-nominee Palin's daughter being pregnant was described as the family "making a decision" to keep the baby. When approached by The Daily Show's best-fucking news team to describe that decision, no one could utter the word "choice". As Stewart cut through the bullshit, the Republicans who are for smaller government won't let you choose your actions because their government will have chosen it for you. Simply, you will learn all that you need to know when they tell you what to know. Genius eh?
3. Religious nonsense and fervor: this has been the strongest driving and divisive force of all mankind. The right uses it divide and conquer whilst the left are afraid of arguing that the founding fathers understood that religion, while well-intentioned, corrodes the underlying structure of good government. The Christian right's claim of the USA being a Christian nation foments antagonism against others with different beliefs and views and leads to internal strife. Nowhere in the Constitution is "god" ever uttered; rather, it clearly states that religion shall not be discriminated against. So where the fuck do these mopes get the idea of a Christian Nation? It wasn't Islam that struck American, it was a bunch of over-zealous nut jobs who, like the Republicans, want human civilization to regress to the days of living under their respective god and then fighting holy wars against each other. Pure nonsense, especially when there exist too much evidence of there never been any god to have existed.
4. Sexual education: the notion that abstinence prevents unwanted pregnancies and the spread of sexual disease may be a good idea but IT DOESN'T WORK. Why? BECAUSE kids, teenagers and adults are inherently curious and sexual creatures driven to reproduce as humans are a lucky species to actually enjoy sexually-induced orgasms. So the religious right choose to punish and deride sex and related activities as evil. Since it's evil, they rather not talk, discuss or educate people about it as it's simply much better to slam people for getting messed up with sex. The worse is their pro-life idea to not allow women to get abortions from rape and incest. Wouldn't it have been easier to teach young folks how to use condoms to prevent pregnancies and STDs than allowing the bombings of clinics, murders of helpful physicians and the complicated emotional process of growing up?
5. Delusional leadership: if the public hasn't noticed, Fox News is the Republican's media mouthpiece as practiced phrases and catchwords are uttered repeatedly and incessantly to the point that undereducated mopes begin to believe it. Recently, Jon Stewart busted Karl Rove, Bill O'Reilly and Dick Morris for being the pompous hypocritical right-wing mouthpieces they are. Karl mocked some guy in Virginia running a town of 200,000+ while heralding Sarah Palin's administration of Alaska's 2nd largest city of 7,000. Bill wagged his finger at America for inquiring about Palin's daughter's pregnancy yet ridiculed Jamie Spears' own pregnancy, perhaps it was Jamie being 16 and Bristol was 17. Dick Morris decried sexism against Sarah Palin from the undecided and the media while, in the past, he chided Hilary for whining about the glass ceiling and that she's lucky to have gotten out of the kitchen. The constant repetitive brainwashing is certainly a core strength of the right to delude the masses. Why read or think when your right-wing leaders will tell what to do and believe? Sounds like Big Brother eh?
6. Denial: During the RNC conventional, the constant drumbeat rode on McCain's drive to change how Washington does business. Mitt yelled that the angry left and liberal media are destroying values needed to undo Washington's stagnation and Rudy needed to throw in his bit about 9/11. Do these folks not know (they probably do and won't admit it) that it was their party that controlled both the White House and Congress that got America into the mess that is today? The Republicans, however, suggest that since the Democrats got control of Congress, nothing was done to fix the mess. Are they serious? The Republicans have filibustered and undone proposed fixes and W broke out his veto stamp. In other words, the Republicans continued to mire the US in broke-ass economics and policies but are blaming the Democrats for it.
While I lean left of the political spectrum, I am amazed by the number of folks who believe the constant bullshit that stream from these right-wing leaders' mouths. What's also incredible is the many intellectuals who advocate this right-wing crap, certainly as it helps to maintain their comfortable lives. The biggest rub so far was the message from Republicans as Gustav made landfall: taking the Republican hat off and putting on the American hat. WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?! They should always wear their American hat! That's just proof that Republicans don't give a shit about America.
Do you care about America? If so, please take 30 minutes to consider which candidate will best help America. Even as a liberal, I do think that some Republican policies are positive (strong national defense, lower taxes - not for the rich but for the poor and tough on crime). However, that won't make America a better nation as we need to have comprehensive education, healthcare and energy policies that lift all Americans, not just the few. With smarter, healthier and self-reliant American, we can become the gold-standard of the world once again.

Closing Ceremonies
Damn.....the Chinese put on a fantastic show! I only wish I saw the opening ceremonies. doh....
The NBC folks said that China spent $40 billion on the Olympics. That's a lot of moolah....WOW!

USA Hoops
Spain just brought the game to within 2 points in the 4th quarter. Our boys just seem so damn lethargic by not going after the ball. The one true star so far is Dwayne Wade. The cause is probably the referees calling the game really tight. So far, Lebron has 4 fouls and Kobe has 3 fouls. The Spaniards are nailing practically all of their free throws.
A weak attempt by Kobe to steal the ball leads Rudy Fernandez to take the ball to the rim for a monster jam and the foul. Nasty!
103-95 with 4:22 remaining. U.S. is in the penalty. The Spaniards are putting some serious bodies in the paint and their guards have sweet handles too.
I think the refs was the U.S. to lose because Gasol just forearmed Bosh and no foul was called. On the next possession, Kobe nails a 3 and got fouled by Rudy (he fouls out at the same time). Kobe hits the free throw.
Fucking bullshit! Dwayne is tripped going into the lane and no foul is called. Spain hits a 3 coming down. However, Dwayne answers back with a 3 to bring the lead back up to 7 with 2:02 left.
The FIX could be in as the ref called Kobe for his 4th with a pussy body bump. Wide oped 3 by Spain misses and a monster rebound by Lebron. Kobe slashes and makes a runners.
113-105, 58 seconds. Chris Paul to the line with 47.7 seconds left. Makes both. 115-105.
115-107, 26.1 seconds. Two techs on Spain, unsportsmanlike and tech. Kobe shoots both free throw and cans it. Looking good.
I wonder what the line was in Vegas. Probably U.S. laying 15+.
They're celebrating yet but there's still 26.1 seconds. Chris Paul makes 1 of 2 shots for the foul on him. From the other fouls, U.S. gets the ball back.
Chris Paul loses the ball and Spain misses an easy breakaway because the guy goes for a reverse layup. Dwayne gets called for travel with 3.1 seconds left.
U.S. wins gold, 118-107.
Phew.........
But BIG UPS & PROPS to the Spanish team.

Right at it again...
Two lesbians tried to have a child via imsemination at a San Diego County fertility clinic in 2000 but was turned away by doctors because their religious beliefs prevented them from doing so. So this couple filed a lawsuit which the California Supreme Court upheld yesterday. These same doctors claimed that they wouldn't help unmarried couples do the same either.
I can't imagine how these Jesus-folks have such vile, contempt and despise for those different from themselves. Especially when their main man, Christ, was teaching about loving everyone.
While I understand that everyone has their right to refuse service to individuals deemed having the lack of funds to pay or have been unruly in their place of business, how could they just blatantly hate by hiding behind their bible?
Homosexuality does NOT destroy families or marriages. In fact, straight people are often the ones to wreck families or marriages because of their silly beliefs or acts. That is the hypocrisy of being holier-than-thou sexually straight individuals.
For all you selfish straight bible-thumpers, you should pray that almost every guy was gay because the demand for the remaining straight men would go through the roof by women. Furthermore, the sexually-repressed-but-looking-for-an-outlet right-wingers should pray that all women were bisexual so that they could gets their menage-a-trois on.
Stupid fucks.

W's clarity
I couldn't help but laugh this morning when I read this:
President Bush criticized China's record on human rights and religious freedom in a speech he made before going to China for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics. "I have spoken clearly, candidly and consistently with China's leaders about our deep concerns over religious freedom and human rights," he said. "And I have met repeatedly with Chinese dissidents and religious believers. The United States believes the people of China deserve the fundamental liberty that is the natural right of all human beings."
'Fundamental liberty' that is the 'natural right'.....what the fuck does that mean? That certainly isn't clear.
'Fundamental liberty' sounds like 'free will'. If that's the case, let the Chinese be. It's their choice of governing and being governed.
'Natural right' is a tough one. To do what? To believe in whatever? So long as it is the cruel and unusually false New Testament and other spiritual nonsense that's constantly promulgated by crackpot evangelicals who spew hate and fear in order to fatten their coffers? So let the Chinese believe in whatever.
Frankly, I'm not sure if there really is either a 'fundamental liberty' or 'natural right' for human beings. We're lucky to exist. We should be thankful for the Mount Everest-sized meteor that killed off the dinosaurs. Surely, that was NOT the work of a mysterious all-knowing and all-present deity.
Then again, the bible-thumpers don't believe in dinosaurs since the Earth is less than 10,000 years old.

The Sun Is Out Today
Like every morning Monday to Friday, I don't want to wake up. But I did. When I got to work, Murphy was warming up already. The dopes in HK did not proceed with presenting my proposal for approval and Netflix did not receive all three discs that I returned Wednesday. Normally, my feathers would be a ruffled a bit. Today, it's different because of a few words written in an email.
I see myself as a provocateur, an encourager or an incorrigible misfit of sorts. Not this morning, for a tiny shiny moment in time, I had inspired someone. WOOT!
Needle please...air needs to get out lest dementia take hold...
Write, screech, snort, jump, spin, record, mix, snarl, whatever...
Thank YOU!
Latest choon that I'm lovin'

Enjoy and have a fantastic weekend!

Right-wing anger
Everywhere that I look, right-wingers are hating. I get the impression that they view change so adversely that they need to spew venom, raise the hate temperature and repeat unfounded verses of fear to the populace. While The Daily Show isn't the greatest source of news, it is a good way to get acquainted with current events from a different perspective as they don't rib on both sides of the aisle despite their liberal leanings. That said, the writers' jobs are so easy when right-wingers constantly whine and scare folks while not offering any solutions to their hyped problems.
Recent right-wing gaffes:
-Bush says that the economy is this way because Wall Street was drunk even though he keeps telling the public that it is sound
-Bush ambushed Fed Chairman Bernanke with a simultaneous appearance at the White House to tout the economy while Bernanke was on the Hill dropping data about on the recession-like economy
-One of McCain's advisers said that "we become a nation of whiners"
-Then McCain bitched that the media is in love with Obama, notably during Barack's trip to Iraq, Israel, Germany and England
-McCain tried to emulate Obama's trip to Germany by going to a German restaurant in Pennsylvania and declared that he wouldn't acted as President even though Obama was there as a senator
-When McCain was pressed by a reporter for his position on why birth control wasn't covered by insurance as opposed to Viagra, he couldn't answer and needed to speak with his people about his previous position
-Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) was just indicted on bribery charges and claims these charges were sadly brought against him
-The Justice Department just released a report that criticized hiring practices under former Attorney General Gonzales that were politically biased
-Former Press Secretary Scott McClellan accuses the administration of shady dealings and felt he was lied to about the outing of a CIA operative
I suppose that they should be screaming and shouting now that all their bullshit has circled back and smacked them in the face. Angry at getting busted.

High Definition
I'm glad that the blu-ray vs hd-dvd war is over. I hope the studios will crank out more titles in blu-ray to saturate the market and to usher in a new video era. Also, the law requiring all stations to broadcast in digital is nearing (February 2009). In the meantime, I hope Netflix increases its offering of blu-ray as I got my first taste last Thursday. Yummy...
Current feel-good choon (many many many thanks to my friend Alex for hunting this bad boy down):

And W's crew is still starting trouble. Recently, it was revealed that the White House got $400 million of funding from Congress to engage in special operations to destabilize Iran as a preparation to invade or to instigate a regime change. Can't we leave them to their own devices?
In the last few days, the price of oil has fallen as Americans fight their addiction with stay-at-home-cations. Oil fell from $146 to $136 but had yet to trickle down to the consumers. Then the schmucks in charge had to say a few words and Iran fires off a couple of missiles.
Oil jumps instantly. Dammit! There goes my roadtrip to Montreal as it might be cheaper to fly instead of taking in the scenery. Feck!

Terrific and typical news...
No more than five minutes after I've gotten into bed last night, the phone rings and the voice gives me shit for not picking up the phone quickly enough. I retorted that it took them long enough to call. As it happened last June, I figured out the reason for the call. Just one year and viola!
While on Facebook this morning, I went through the routine of buying pets, a silly app, and noticed that someone had changed their default picture. Wow! She looked better in that picture than in person. I IM'ed her and told her so. The chat got excruciatingly dull so quickly that my final text was "ditto". It's disappointing that this decent specimen doesn't have any oomph! beyond the initial moments.
Then again, I don't follow the general guidelines. I suppose my verbage falls under "where the fuck did that come from?"

The Rightists
I find it interesting how the current hatemongers in the U.S., being populated mostly by evangelicals, have the balls to accuse folks of the blatant hypocrisy with which they themselves blare over the airwaves. For example, here's a paragraph I copied from an article on the CNN website today:
"I think he's deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own world view, his own confused theology," [Focus on the Family founder James] Dobson said, later adding that Obama is "dragging biblical understanding through the gutter."
That is his response to a speech given by Barack in 2006:
"Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy?" Obama asks in the speech. "Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is OK and that eating shellfish is an abomination? Or we could go with Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount?
I read it as Obama being open to religious consideration when it comes to governing but not governing under religion's edicts and canons. As an atheist, I see absolutely no point of mixing governing and religion. Does "an eye for an eye" make more sense than diplomacy?
Dobson later threw this into the mix:
"Evangelicals are people who take Bible interpretation very seriously, and the sort of speech he gave shows that he is worlds away in the views of evangelicals."
Here's something I'm borrowing from Alpha Bitch to rebuff this last statement:
"Myth: America is a Christian Nation...Suffice to say for now that any country with ZERO mentions of god, and only two mentions of religion (both of which pointedly exclude religion from the government and legislative process), in its foundational documents is pretty clearly not a religious nation of any stripe. Read the Constitution sometime, mm'kay? I know it's usually not required in school, but it's very enlightening. So what difference does this little delusion make in today's society? Well, ask any teen girl who got pregnant, because the only information she got about birth control was from an "abstinence only" sex-ed program … where all you learn is how often birth control fails, never mind how to use it properly, because premarital sex is a sin. Visit a school where science teachers have to include a unit on "Intelligent Design", aka. God Created the World (which is not any kind of scientific theory), right along side the theory of Evolution, or where the library had to remove books which somehow offended the sensibilities of a loud local church. Or how about NGO foreign aid organizations receiving government funding who, thanks to Reagan's biblical policies (enthusiastically upheld by both generations of BushCo presidencies, while suspended during the Clinton administration), cannot educate women in Third World countries about abortion, because that's a sin too? The US does guarantee that you can practice whatever form of holy superstition you like, but the Founders were really quite clear that you have no right to try legally forcing your religious values down other people's throats."
Here's another tidbit Alpha Bitch wrote earlier this year:
"Creationism is bullshit. Seriously. A big magic guy in the clouds did not wiggle his fingers and create the earth in 6 days. Didn't fucking happen. And I think anyone who professes to believe such a thing ought to be barred from political office. What if there was a religion claiming the world was flat, and the whole "round" thing was just an optical illusion created by God to test our faith? Would ANYONE be suggesting we teach it in schools? Would anyone vote for a politician who claimed to believe it? For fuck's sake, people. It's 2008. We have fossils. We have carbon dating. Get a clue!"
I'm sure to have pissed a few folks off. But take a moment and think about it please. Then ask yourself this:
Why do we yearn for explanations about what's happening or happened only to make up explanations that cannot possibly be true but that which we wish and demand it be true without any proof?
